ABOUT PAULINE LITTLE

Pauline has been a practicing artist for 35 years, first painting in London for two decades and then in North Down Northern Ireland from 2011. She studied at Sir John Cass Art School, Middlesex University and New York’s Cooper Union. She taught foundation at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design.
She has always worked with oil on canvas. During the course of her career she transitioned away from figurative work towards abstract paintings that focuses on colour and balance. This shift was influenced by mid-century painters such as Diebenkorn, Klee and Rothko. She currently works in both her painting studio and garden in equal measure through the seasons. Neither the paintings or garden are passive, they have their own energy which she works with and responds to. It is not surprising that the two have become entwined. Recent paintings work to capture the complexity and vigor of life below the surface of the soil and the changing character of the seasons. All the paintings involve an initial period of drawing and then a study of colour to create abstract compositions which are evocative of this life energy and constant change.
